About the site

Cleesh allows you to read your favorite webcomics in one place - on this web page or with your RSS reader of choice - without hopping around the whole internet

Why make such a site?

If you're a fan of web comics you probably know the answer already. It's hard to follow many different web comics - some are updated daily, some occasionally. Some don't include images in their RSS feeds and some don't provide feeds at all. But even if they do, it keeps piling up quickly when you're following more than a handful.

Cleesh is an effort to provide a simple tool to keep in touch with your favourite web comics in one place - one feed is easier to manage than a dozen. It's also easier to catch up if you missed a few days.

How does it work?

Simply put - cleesh is a web-based rss reader (and more) designed with web comics in mind. Cleesh checks each web comic for upates and makes it available in a consolidated form.

That's why you can see text in some of the updates, it's the unchanged text that was included in the original feed. If no feed is provided - cleesh creates one by itself. This is similar to how Google allows you to follow sites with no rss feed on Google reader.

Isn't this hurting authors?

I understand that one big drawback of people using this site to follow webcomics is that they are less likely to visit the original site. This means that, among others, they do not generate views on ads and it becomes harder for authors to track the number of people who actually read their content.

That's why if the original site provides a rss feed it is included as a whole without any alteration. This way any ads or tracking code embeded in it are preserved.

What is 'NSFW'?

NSFW means 'Not Safe For Work', and is generally used to describe any content that you wouldn't like your boss/co-worker see you browsing. Web comics marked with this acronym will be collapsed by default on your webcomic page, you have to manually click the [+] button to expand them.

Why are the archives limited to 3 weeks?

Cleesh is not meant to be a web comic archive, the archives are there to make it easy to catch up on any comics you might have missed for any reason. If you like a particular comic - visit its home site, read the archive there or better yet - buy the paper version. Also - the bandwidth and hosting costs would probably get out of hand after a while ;)
